I suspect many of the students have really been enjoying their summer breaks and putting their feet up; this has meant that the pre-season training has really come as a shock to the system!!
This last 10 days I have spent time with both the boys’ and the girls’ squads, as well as the different age groups, and what has been really pleasing to see is everyones enthusiasm to get back into the boat and start working towards their 2015/16 goals. It has also been nice to see some new faces at the boathouse with several students joining BMS for the sixth form.
The boys have had a gruelling pre-season with double sessions; a technical water session followed by some time with their close friend, the ergo! The girls have had a slightly more steady start with the main focus being on technique and enjoying Mrs Williams’ conditioning drills in the gym, still working hard though!
I have been busy (relatively) through the summer break purchasing new equipment in time for the start of the new season. This includes two brand new state-of-the-art Watt Bikes which will be used for cross-training as well as rehabilitation of injured students. These are truly a great addition to the boathouse. Many of the oars are being updated this year also, which should see 16 pairs of sculls for the J14’s as well as some more sweep oars to complete some current sets and one new set of 8.
Right from the outset in September we also have use of some additional space on the school site in the form of ‘The Rowing Suite’ which is located downstairs in School House. This large room is the new home to BMSBC’s Swingulator, the Concept2 Dyno Strength machines, some rowing specific weights equipment and a handful of ergo’s. We are looking for more ergo’s for this space so if you have one gathering dust at home, let me know and we’ll look after it for you!!
The website has also had much more information added to it. The aim being that the BMSBC website holds all information that you require so that you can access it whenever you like. Please do take the time to have a look around the site and please feedback to me if you feel there is something vital missing.
All the staff are looking forward to getting going again as I’m sure are all of the students. St. Neot’s Head is the first event in the diary in early October.
Looking forward to another great year with BMSBC.
