After the very successful efforts of the boat club that all raced in the individual races throughout the day, it was the turn of the three relay teams to take the challenge of an eight minute race against all the fellow schools and clubs.
BMS had two boys teams, a senior and J16 team, as well as a senior girls team. The J16 boys raced well and finished 11th out of 20 teams entered. The Senior Girls also raced incredibly well and actually managed to win their heat comfortably by around 150m. They then had the agonising wait to see if anyone would go faster in the last heat. Unfortunately some very strong teams from Sir William Perkins School and Bedford Girls school managed to just pip the girls into 4th place. Credit to all medal winners in the race.
This just left the Senior boys relay team to try and defend their title for the third year in a row…
They were up against some tough opposition – last years medal winners; Pangbourne College Boat club and The Kings School Worcester. Pangbourne had a fantastic start and unfortunately they boys could never quite close the gap, eventually finishing in second place. Congratulations to Glen Mulkerrins, Jack Colliver, Joe Walker and Sam Hodgkiss, a fantastically earned silver medal, we’ll be back next year!
