Star New Year Head

Sunday saw the first head race of the 2018 calendar year. A cold and early start, for our more junior crews, it was Star Club’s New Year Head.

Our J158+ was the first crew to race and put in a good performance on the morning. Their time however was very encouraging against some matched eights from Shrewsbury school, just six seconds behind which shows some reward for the hard work these boys have put in – well done.

The senior girl’s quad also racing powerfully, managing to collect the win in women’s J18 quads as well as the fastest women’s time of the day. Lara Brittain, Jess Read, Imogen Eales and Lizzie Rowe collecting their pots.

Two J16 boys fours were racing in the first division, also matched boats they came out just 2 seconds apart, and showing signs of encouragement after a step forwards in their training. These boys then swapped combinations for two more runs down the track giving Mr Satchwill some interesting results! The J16 4+ of Matt Fox, Jake Young, Matej Sanders and Jack Hill, coxed by Georgia Bygraves collected a medal for the win in J16 4’s.

Another J15 boys eight combination raced in division 2, and despite an unfortunate crab, these boys raced well down the course, and recorded a respectable time for their efforts. The J15 girls’ had two quads racing, not having been in their racing boats for a while, it gave them a good opportunity to get back out racing in preparation for their bigger races to come.

Thank you as ever to the PSG who did a fantastic job of serving food and hot drinks to the many parent supporters as well as the staff who came down to cheer from the banks. We look forward to seeing you all at our next home event, Bedford Head on the 11th February.

Next up: Quintin and Cambridge Head 2 Head.
